A day in the media industry
On May 14th 2008, Springbrettet organized "Bergen Through The Media", an event in which media students got to visit Kamikaza Media, Radio 1 and Bergens Tidende. The goal was to show the students what kind of job opportunities are available in Bergen.
Our first guided tour was at Kamikaze Media, which is situated in Strandgaten. Although it is a small company, they have many big clients and projects. We got to see some of their products, how they work and what is demanded from employee in such a company. Even though the offices were rather small, and were intended for 8 workers only, all students had enough place to look around.
The next stop was at Radio 1, where we were given information about Radio1’s history and how a normal working day might look like. It was particularly interesting to hear how Radio1 coordinates their broadcasts with the other branches of Radio1 in Norway. We also got to meet some of the hosts of the live show “Frokostshowet”.
When we came to BT’s office, lunch from Godt Brød was waiting for us, and we listened to a presentation about BT’s future plans within the newspaper industry, for themselves and career choices. After the presentation we were given a guided tour of the desk and the different editorial departments. The ones who worked there gladly stopped their work for a moment to tell us about their tasks.
The event went smoothly. Springbrettet is therefore ready to arrange a similar event next semester as well. It seemed that all the students were satisfied and we think they benefited from what they saw and heard.
