The clock is about to strike 10 on October 3rd . Inside Grieghallen, it has been hectic for hours already. 70 company stands are ready and awaiting the moment when the doors open.
Career day 2007 – a remarkable success
On the other side of the doors, a crowd of excited students were waiting. Shortly, the whole area was full of enthusiastic students with career-seeking questions, and the excitement in Grieghallen remained for the rest of the day. People almost queued up to get a chance to talk to companies. Many had brought their CVs, and the set-up interview stands were used throughout the day.
The human resource agencies were frequently jotting down new names on their lists and hopefully many went home with both a new found of motivation, and with exciting job offers. No matter what, there is no doubt that Grieghallen became an important arena where students and representatives from the industry could meet and connect.
The on-stage job interview turned out to be one of the highlights of the day. We had great expectations for this particular event, but the response from students was tremendous. Our efficient chief of location managed to come up with 100 extra seats, so more than 500 students got the chance to see Martin Skarra in action. Comments like “A good first time interview” could be heard as the audience left satisfied, and with tips for their own future job interviews.
At the same time position abroad probably sounds very tempting to most people, which is why many interested students showed up to Halvor Fossum Lauritzen’s lecture. In “An international career in a complex world” Lauritzen shared his experiences from his 20 years of work in the Red Cross. And at the same time he was happy to answer all the questions from the audience. Afterwards he also took part in the Career Market under the direction of Karrieresenteret, where students could talk to him about their own career opportunities. News anchor Siri Lill Mannes and the resigning mayor of Bergen, Herman Friele, were also popular advisers earlier in the day.
At 15:00 it was almost sad to close the doors and realize that Career Day was over. Still, it was a delight to see that the number on the counter by the door: over 5000! Not only did we double the number of participating companies from last year, but also the number of visitors. This shows that the interest and involvement among students in Bergen is great, and they are undoubtedly also in demand on the job market. The positive feedback from the companies and visitors is very inspiring and we are already excited about Carreer Day 2008!
